2010 Portland Fashion Week Featured Solar Panel Runway « ecorazzi.com :: the latest in green gossip

For this year’s Portland Fashion week, which concluded last Sunday, organizers decided to inject some megawatt personality into the runway for the five-day event.

One of the sponsors, photovoltaic panel-maker SolarWorld partnered with Seth Aaron Henderson, the Vancouver-based designer who won last season’s “Project Runway” to design the unique flooring. It was composed of the company’s new “black panels” — and Henderson even used the modules as inspiration for his “solar collection”.

“As far as I know, no one has designed a high-fashion runway collection based on solar,” he writes. “Those solar designs that have shown up in finished fashion have directly borrowed or even applied the technology. I’m interested in leading a high-fashion interpretation of this powerful source of future energy. I’m taking inspiration from the technology but not mimicking it.”
