South Africa turns to Concentrated Solar Thermal Power Generation to Meet Growing Demand « Solar Thermal Magazine

Eskom generates approximately 95% of the electricity used in South Africa and approximately 45% of the electricity used in Africa.

In an effort to meet the rising demand for electricity, Eskom has embarked on a massive build programme of R385 billion over the five years to 2013. In order to explore new generation options, find solutions that can contribute to meeting the growing electricity demand and in an effort to utilise renewable energy resources, Eskom claims that they are assessing the feasibility of constructing a Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plant rated at approximately 100 MW in the Northern Cape Province.
