Saving the forests of Sabah

In a report released by Netherlands-based Wetlands International, Malaysia is destroying its forests more than three times faster than all of Asia combined. Most of the forests are being converted into palm oil plantations.

Despite the destruction, progress has been made towards sustainable forest management to help minimize the impact of climate change. Since the introduction of commercial logging some 40 years ago, Sabah's forest cover has been reduced from 90 per cent to 60 per cent today.
