The European Commission Urges Energy Savings

The European Commission has urged EU nations to invest more in technologies that lead to energy efficiency, as well as in green technologies. The European Commission said that by investing in energy efficiency and green technologies, the nations will be able to retain economic advantages.

This announcement has been made in the European Commission’s road-map to 2050 on climate and energy. While the function of this new announcement is not primarily to lower emissions in the European Union, EU Climate Commissioner Connie Hedegaard said, “We need to start the transition towards a competitive low carbon economy now. The longer we wait, the higher the cost will be. As oil prices keep rising, Europe is paying more every year for its energy bill and becoming more vulnerable to price shocks. So starting the transition now will pay off.”
