Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Reactor 3 explosion on March 14, 2011

A new explosion hit a nuclear plant in Japan as the country races to avert a catastrophic meltdown in the wake of a massive earthquake and tsunami feared to have killed more than 10,000 people.

There has been a second explosion at the Fukushima nuclear plant, 240km north of Tokyo in Japan. Plumes of smoke have been rising from Fukushima No 3 reactor, two days after an explosion damaged another reactor - Fukushima No 1.

The UN atomic watchdog has released a statement saying the No. 3 reactor container was not breached during the latest explosion and there was no major rise in radiation.
