John Hunter on the World Peace Game

John Hunter puts all the problems of the world on a 4'x5' plywood board -- and lets his 4th-graders solve them. At TED2011, he explains how his World Peace Game engages schoolkids, and why the complex lessons it teaches -- spontaneous, and always surprising -- go further than classroom lectures can.

This is an amazing idea. It embodies true education. Rather than a teacher who knows all the answers leading the students toward conclusions already made by other people, this game teaches kids to use the freedom of their minds to create ingenious solutions. This is the kind of thinking we will need if our kids are to do any better with the planet and with each other than we have done.
