Wind Generates Over 10 TWh of Electricity in 2010 (UK)

Wind energy supplied an additional 24 per cent to UK energy generation in the fourth quarter of 2010, a record increase on the same period in 2009, according to latest official figures.

Wind energy generation in the fourth quarter of 2010 was 20 per cent higher than in the previous quarter and 24 per cent higher than the comparable quarter of 2009.Total renewable electricity capacity increased by 12 per cent between 2009 and 2010, figures released last week by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) showed. Wind farms produced 10.04 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy in 2010, up 7.7 per cent from 9.32 TWh in 2009. Onshore wind capacity increased by 14 per cent (476 megawatts) and offshore wind capacity increased by 42 per cent (400 MW). For the first time ever, wind generated over 10 TWh of electricity in total.
