The Crown Estate Announces Several New Wave and Tidal Energy Demonstration Projects (UK)

The Crown Estate today announced several new wave and tidal energy demonstration projects plus a new project in connection with the Scottish Government’s Saltire Prize.

The new projects are located off the Scottish west coast and Shetland Islands, adding to the existing portfolio in the Pentland Firth and Orkney waters. This increases the number of wave and tidal projects under active development or operation in UK waters to over 20, more than any other country in the world and furthering the UK’s global lead.

Two of the new projects result from the first application window of The Crown Estate competition framework announced in September 2010: a 10 MW demonstration project under development by Vattenfall and Pelamis (the Aegir project off Shetland), plus a 30 MW Saltire Prize project led by Aquamarine Power (North West Lewis
