New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg: Nissan NV200 selected as exclusive NYC taxi vehicle

It's a long way from the Ford Crown Victoria but the Nissan NV200 has been selected by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission to be the city's official taxi vehicle starting in 2013.

The deal is big news for Nissan which could mean more than $1 billion in vehicle sales. The contract is said to be for 10-years and replaces a total of 16 different vehicles now in use. The Nissan NV200 taxi cab comes with special features such as a "low-annoyance" horn that reduces noise pollution whereby exterior lights also indicate when the car is honking. The minivan also features sliding doors, a panoramic roof for better sight-seeing as well as side steps and grab handles for easy access to the cabin. The NV200 is powered by a 2.0 liter, four-cylinder engine. The vehicle will be built at Nissan's plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

"The city's Taxi of Tomorrow is the Nissan NV 200 - and it's going to be the safest, most comfortable and most convenient cab the city has ever had," said New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
