Geothermal has potential to grow tenfold by 2050

Geothermal heat and electricity production has the potential to grow tenfold between now and 2050, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). In its Technology Roadmap: Geothermal Heat and Power, the IEA says geothermal could account for 3.5% of annual global electricity production and 3.9% of energy for heat by 2050, compared to today’s 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively.
