Canada's controversial 'oil sands' pipeline project

An ambitious pipeline project to link the oil sands of Alberta province to a future terminal on Canada's west coast holds out the promise of billions of dollars in revenue, and the prospect that the world's second largest known energy reserves may finally expand into the Asian market. But even so, the so-called Northern Gateway is facing fierce local resistance, as it undergoes a government review.
