Crow Lake Wind Project: 108 Wind Turbines in South Dakota

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard says, as a co-op member, he's proud of this project because he owns it. All co-op members in South Dakota own it. "I've been governor just less than six months now, and more has happened in that six months that I could have ever forecast. But today is going to be of my greatest memories, and I'll tell you why. Because of the magnitude of this project and the uniqueness of it."

The project is unique because of the way it was built. Not only did Basin Electric's subsidiary, PrairieWinds SD 1, take ownership... but so did a group of community wind investors... and so did a local college. The local community investors are the South Dakota Wind Partners. They own seven of the project's 108 turbines.
