LEED Platinum Net Zero Residence in Miami Beach

Proposed LEED Platinum spec home in Miami Beach (possibly the first), based upon the proportions of a cube on a very tight corner site. This modern home on highly traversed Alton Rd is proposed to be the first LEED Home in south Beach, with points totaling Platinum certification. Due to the setbacks required, on a lot size of 58' x 120', the resulting buildable area is only 32ft wide. The allowable height is also 32ft. Therefore, the design sought to take advantage of these dimensions by making the main portion of the home based upon a cube which is setback substantially from the busy street, creating a recreation area for the home.

An exposed masonry wall further "protects" the house while creating a private courtyard for where the pool & recreation deck is located. The wall also frames views of the golf course across the street. The living area is formed with architectural elements connected to an interior stair as well as an exterior stair. These vertical elements physically and visually connect all levels of this home inside and out. The outdoor spaces are as important as the indoor spaces and include varying size balconies and a roof deck. Solar panels are planned along with a geo-thermal A/C system and wind turbine to achieve net zero.
