The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is like a modern day Noah’s Ark – storing seeds rather than animals, but incredibly important in case of global catastrophe. Designed to withstand a nuclear explosion or even rising sea levels, the underground vault protects over 1.5 million distinct seed samples of agricultural crops. National Geographic recently took a tour of the vault to get a firsthand look at how it works.
