Papua New Guinea (or PNG) contains much tropical rainforest and like everywhere else in the world it is under threat. This is the story of an attempt to save forest by reaching land-holders BEFORE the logging companies and offering them a sustainable forestry management plan and low impact portable sawmills (the walkabout or wokabout sawmill). The result- a small area of forest is sustainably harvested and thousands of hectares are protected. Featuring John Seed, Chris Holt, Mark Broomhall, Penny Young & Sasa Zibe.

The Environmental Protection Agency has drawn up the first-ever set of carbon limits on trucks and buses and the Obama administration intends to announce them next week.
The new plan will reduce by 20 percent heat-trapping emissions from truck and bus tailpipes, according to Dan Becker, director of the Safe Climate Campaign.

Peta's use of nude models in animal campaigns fuels row with UK film-maker | World news | The Guardian
The use of naked models and actresses to highlight animal cruelty is at the heart of a dispute between high-profile activists that could end in court.
American group Peta – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals – has locked horns with British film-maker Victor Schonfeld over the former's alleged use of some of the latter's footage.
Peta and Schonfeld appear to have a lot in common. Both abhor animal cruelty and both have used "video nasties" to shock an often apathetic public into confronting difficult truths about fur, factory farming and scientific research over the last three decades.
But despite their shared goal, they are at odds over undercover footage highlighting some of the most unpalatable examples of animal cruelty. Peta has been threatened with a lawsuit in the UK by Schonfeld, a film-maker credited with raising public awareness of animal exploitation with the critically acclaimed The Animals Film, first released in 1982 and shown on Channel 4 in its launch week.
The issue at the nub of the case, it would appear, is less animal exploitation and more the alleged exploitation of the human female form. Schonfeld has been a big critic of Peta's "sexualised" campaigns to promote animal awareness – including a current poster featuring one-time Baywatch star Pamela Anderson.
The director claims secretly shot footage used in his film, co-directed by Myriam Alaux, has been exploited by Peta.

The Bulgarian government's ‘National Renewable Energy Action Plan' is failing to tap the full potential of Bulgaria's locally-produced and pollution-free wind power, and failing to harness the full potential of the country's fast-growing wind energy industry. At the international conference "Wind Power in Bulgaria: gearing up for 2020", held today at the Sheraton Hotel in Sofia, renewable energy experts from Bulgaria and the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) expressed their disappointment in the Bulgarian government's energy plans. "There is a disappointing lack of ambition in the Bulgarian government's energy plans", said Jacopo Moccia of EWEA. "The government has failed to take into account Bulgaria's excellent wind power potential. Given the problems Bulgaria has suffered with security of energy supply, Bulgaria's own wind power is too good an opportunity to miss." EWEA expects the wind industry to install 3,000 MW of wind power in Bulgaria by 2020 - but according to the government's Renewable Energy Action Plan only a surprisingly low 1,256 MW wind power will be in place at the end of the next decade and grid access for wind power would be capped at 1,800 MW.
EWEA calculates that Bulgaria could generate between 13.5% and 15% of its total electricity consumption in 2020 from wind energy, reducing the energy dependency of the country substantially, creating long lasting jobs in the energy sector and attracting massive investments. "Our politicians need to take wind energy more seriously and to give a clearer commitment to it", said Velizar Kiriakov, President of the Association of Producers of Ecological Energy (APEE). "It is hard to understand why the government seems to favour fossil fuel and nuclear rather than wind power, which has no fuel or carbon costs and produces no waste. The government is putting substantial green investments at risk." Kiriakov underlined that Bulgaria had received "expressions of interest to build 8,000 MW of wind power".

How often do you have to empty the trash cans around your home? If you take a trip outside to the dumpster every couple days, it’s time to examine why your garbage bins fill up so quickly. To cut down the amount of waste you send off to the landfill, here’s a list of things you shouldn’t be throwing away.

Hywind, worlds first offshore floating windmill (go HQ!)
Technip has been awarded by StatoilHydro an EPCI contract for the Hywind Project substructure wind turbine which will be located offshore Karmøy, Norway, at 200-300 meter water depth. It will be the world's first full scale offshore floating wind turbine (FTW).
Installation is scheduled for autumn 2009.
This 3D animation was made during work on the installation procedures by Itero, for Technip and StatoilHydro.
