REC Celebrates 1 Million Solar Panels Produced At Singapore Plant

REC Group has officially opened the world's largest integrated wafer, cell and solar panel manufacturing facilities in Tuas, Singapore. The facility has already produced 1 million Peak Energy solar power modules.

The 2.5 billion Singapore dollar facility represents Norway-based REC's largest clean tech investment to date and also the third largest "green field" foreign investment made a Norwegian company. Singapore was selected due to its proximity to key markets, including Australia.

The 321,000 square meter plant was constructed by around 8,000 workers; putting in around 17 million man hours - and without any serious injury reported. The facility has created 1500 ongoing jobs so far. Among its energy efficiency features are waste water recycling and energy recovery systems.

In an age where construction time and cost blowouts for large projects are common, REC says the plant came in 20% below budget, ahead of time and the facility's original production targets have been increased by 35%.

The Singapore plant now produces more than 190,000 REC Solar Peak Energy solar panels each month.
