Spectacular Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) August 31 2012 by NASA

On August 31, 2012 a long filament of solar material that had been hovering in the sun's atmosphere, the corona, erupted out into space at 2036 UTC. The coronal mass ejection, or CME, traveled at over 900 miles per second. The CME did not travel directly toward Earth, but did connect with Earth's magnetic environment, or magnetosphere, with a glancing blow, causing aurora to appear on the night of Monday, September 3.

If not yet the revolutionary solution, still is far better than burning the limited resources of fossil fuels to move our vehicles (with an efficiency lower than 30%). Nevertheless, one big question arises: where will we get from the enormous amount of electrical power needed to charge the batteries in case of mass utilization of this kind of vehicles? If the energy source still is burning fossil fuels, then the results (in terms of overall efficiency and CO2 emissions) might even be worse than using the old internal combustion engine...
