The Mute Button by Improv Everywhere: Stillspotting NYC by Guggenheim Museum

The latest Improv Everywhere mission 23 actors and 2 dogs infiltrated a public space and went on "mute" at coordinated intervals. The mission took place near the northern entrance to Prospect Park in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The Mute Button was produced by Improv Everywhere as part of the Guggenheim Museum exhibition stillspotting nyc.

First Bus Rapid Transit System in Argentina Launches in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, a member of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, announced that a network of dedicated bus lanes — the first in Argentina — went into operation today. The bus rapid transit (BRT) system includes 12.5 kilometers of bus lanes that are estimated to increase public transportation use by up to 15% in the areas it serves. The BRT system will reduce fuel use by buses in the city by 30% and related CO2 emissions, thereby improving air quality. It will also reduce peak hour travel time by 40% for over two million passengers each month, once complete.

The BRT system will start operations with 45i standard diesel buses connecting Liniers Train Station in the west of the city and the neighborhood of Palermo, with various stops along Juan B. Justo Avenue.

Yuneec Chinese Electric Airplane First Flight

The Yuneec E430 Chinese Electric Airplane 54 hp two seat aircraft currently undergoing first flight and flight tests, summer 2009. Yuneec joins Randall Fishman's ElectraFlyer-C in taking the first steps toward practical electric flight on the eve of the unveiling of Solar Impulse -- an enormous aircraft that seeks to fulfill the enormous goal of 24-hour sustained solar powered flight.

eGenius electric plane takes flight with Airbus backing

A team at the University of Stuttgart has completed the maiden flight of a new electric flying machine they have named eGenius. The aircraft successfully completed a 20-minute flight followed by a two-and-a-half hour trip.

The eGenius is capable of hitting 235 km/h (146 MPH) for up to 400 kilometers (248.5 miles). It is powered by a 60-kilowatt motor, weighs 850 kilograms (1,874 pounds), and has some big backing from the likes of Airbus.

Japanese Elderly Offer to Take Over Fukushima Nuclear Cleanup

Let the young rebuild Japan, says Yasuteru Yamada, but let the old clean up the most difficult mess leftover from March’s devastating earthquake and tsunamis. The 72-year-old former engineer is recruiting other retirees to replace the younger workers currently braving radiation exposure at Japan’s damaged Fukushima nuclear power complex. It’s not a question of bravery or experience, he says, but one of biological logic.
