Warren Buffett has been in the news for all kinds of different things lately. And he’s still making big moves. The uber-investor has been busy making big investments into wind power. Enough to become the number one utility in the U.S.
As Buffett has written in his annual shareholder letter, MidAmerican will have 2.909 megawatts of wind generation in operation by the end of 2011. That is more than any other regulated electric source in the country. The total amount of money that MidAmerican has invested is a shocking 5.4 billion dollars. Warren Buffett can make this sorts of investments because MidAmerican retains all of its earnings, while other utilities generally pay out most of what they earn.
