UK Plans to Boost Offshore Wind Industry

On Tuesday July 12th, the UK government will lay out plans to create a considerable offshore wind industry with new targets surpassing the previously-set 13GW of offshore wind power by 2020.

An industry task force will be established to give impetus to the new plans, which will aim to bring 18GW of offshore capacity to the country. The group will be tasked with bringing down the cost of offshore wind from around GBP140-170/MWh to GBP100/MWh by 2020, making the renewable energy source competitive with other forms of generation and thus reducing the need for subsidies in the long term.
