San Francisco to Have 100% Renewable Energy by 2020

Taking the clean energy revolution further, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee has this week announced that he believes that the city is capable of functioning on all renewable energy in the next nine years.

First put forward by Newsom, the goal of 100 percent renewable energy in San Francisco by 2020 is a big target the city is aiming at. One source said that in 2006, San Francisco was only at about 12 percent renewable energy, and that rate put them easily in the top ten U.S. cities for clean energy. At present, San Francisco receives a significant amount of its electricity from the Hetch Hetchy hydroelectric power plant.
