Al Gore, the Nobel Prize winning and #1 bestselling author of An Inconvenient Truth and The Assault on Reason, will write a new yet-to-be- titled book on the political, social and economic forces that are shaping what America and the world will become in ensuing decades. From demographics to democracy, Gore plans to explore what he calls the drivers of global change, framing the international conversation about the future in fresh and provocative ways. Gore’s book is the first acquisition for Jon Meacham, Executive V.P., Executive Editor, since joining Random House this year, and is currently scheduled to be published in 2012. Susan Kamil, Publisher of Random House, announced the deal from the author’s agent Andrew Wylie of The Wylie Agency for World English, German and Spanish languages, first serial, audio, and e-book publication rights. Terms were not disclosed.
Of the acquisition, Jon Meacham said, “No one has done more to raise global awareness about climate change. Now, from social media to political extremism, Gore is turning his attention to an even broader array of issues. He has always discerned trends and truths before much of the rest of the world, and it will be an honor to work with him on this thoughtful, singular look over the horizon.” Commenting on the new book, Mr. Gore stated, “I am delighted to be working with Jon Meacham and Random House on my next book. With this new work, I hope to help start a conversation about the large-scale drivers of change that are defining and shaping our future—from the rapid development and integration of radically new technologies to the planet-changing impact of the climate crisis, to poverty, globalization, and the democratization of knowledge accompanying the emergence of a ubiquitous Internet linking ever more intelligent devices.”
