V I D A Architects, an international group of architects and urban designers, has been entrusted with the design of a new residential town in southern India to be built from the ground up. The country’s rapid urbanization has led developers to look beyond the current city limits to meet the housing needs of a booming urban population.
The town will span over 100 acres and be divided into four distinct communities, all linked by a bike path and meandering stream and interspersed with vast green areas. The stream and landscaping both separate and connect the different areas, and are designed to minimize groundwater run off. V I D A will strive to achieve LEED-Gold certification for the community, ensuring long-term sustainability. When completed in 2013, the area will be able to accommodate up to 40,000 residents.
