Mount Etna bursts to life: Volcano eruption night video

Sicily's Mount Etna burst to life once again early on Thursday with a brief eruption that spewed lava and ash into the air and sent a long stream of lava down its slopes. Officials closed the airport in the nearby town of Catania as experts from the Institute of Vulcanology in Catania surveyed the volcano, both on foot and with helicopters. At dawn airport workers using special equipment tried to clear the runways of ash but winds continued to make the job difficult. The explosions could create problems for Giro D'Italia Bike race on Sunday as bikers complete the ninth leg from Messina to Etna.
