WFTD 2011: Shared Interest and Fair Trade help improve lives of Monda workers from Kibera slum

This Shared Interest film shows how fair trade jewellery business Monda works with people from Kibera and Kitui to produce their glass bead and bone-based products. As you may have seen recently from Comic Relief's two part documentary, Kibera is the largest slum in Nairobi, and the second largest in Africa, where a million people live in an area the size of New York's Central Park.

Thanks to Shared Interest, Monda has been able to employ more women and young people from Kibera, helping them to earn a fair wage. This has been a result of a Shared Interest loan used by Monda to invest in new machinery, enabling them to cut the glass beads and bone onsite that have been sourced from the Kibera slum.
