Global Euphoria To Buy Renewable Energy

Environmental awareness, climate change, oil shortages and the increasing commitment of Western governments by new energy sources have triggered a buying euphoria on actions related to renewable energy.

The euphoria to buy renewable energy that has arisen has been caused by the slowdown in the housing sector, said Ignasi Carreras, a professor at ESADE, Spain. Another factor that has led to frenzied buying of renewable energy has been the requirement by the European Union (EU) to contribute to the consumption of energy sources. In particular, the EU has set a target that by 2020, 20% of energy consumption is supplied by this type of energy. “Renewable energy, is long overdue,” says Carreras. However, “thanks to the large groups that have invested, especially energy, transport or construction, which have been repositioned in order to become sustainable enterprises have helped to boost the activity of this sector.” In the eighties, it was a matter of “will, but questioned its cost much,” says Carreras.
