Incandescent Bulbs Forbidden in Argentina

On December 28, 2010, the Argentine government regulated the law that prohibits the sale and import of incandescent lamps for residential use throughout the territory of Argentina. This measure was promoted in early 2008 by Greenpeace and adopted by the Government transformed it into a bill sent to Congress. Later that year the law was finally enacted.

The ban on light bulbs is a great energy-saving measure that will allow all Argentines save energy and give a more responsible use. The total replacement of traditional bulbs means a significant reduction in electricity consumption; each lamp replacement represents an energy saving of around 80%. By Decree 2060/2010 published in the Official Bulletin, the Executive established exceptions to the ban on the import and marketing of residential use incandescent lamps established by Law 26,473. However, Article 3 of Decree postpones the date of entry into full force of the Law of 31 December 2010 to May 31, 2011.
